Triangle Calculator

Solve triangles: angles, area and perimeter from three sides, or the missing side of a right triangle (Pythagoras).

How do I find the angles of a triangle from its sides?

Use the law of cosines: cos A = (b² + c² − a²) ÷ 2bc. For sides 3, 4 and 5 the angles are 36.87°, 53.13° and 90°, the area is 6 (Heron’s formula) and the triangle is a scalene right triangle.

Right triangles

Choose “Right triangle” and leave the unknown side blank: Pythagoras (a² + b² = c²) finds it, with the two acute angles.

Three lengths can form a triangle only if each is shorter than the other two combined.

Frequently asked questions

What is Heron’s formula?

Area = √(s(s − a)(s − b)(s − c)), where s is half the perimeter.

How is the triangle type decided?

By its sides (equilateral, isosceles, scalene) and largest angle (acute, right, obtuse).

Is it free?

Yes.
