How do you round to 2 decimal places?

Look at the third decimal digit: if it is 5 or more, round the second digit up; otherwise leave it. So 3.14159 rounds to 3.14 and 2.675 to 2.68 (half up). Banker’s rounding sends exact halves to the even digit instead, e.g. 2.5 → 2 and 3.5 → 4.

Methods

  • Half up — the school method.
  • Half to even — banker’s rounding, used in finance and IEEE 754 to avoid bias.
  • Up / down — ceiling and floor.
  • Truncate — drop extra digits.
