Image to ASCII Art

Convert a photo or logo into ASCII text art you can copy into chats, code comments and terminals.

How do I convert an image to ASCII art?

Choose an image and a width in characters. The tool shrinks the image to that many columns, measures each cell’s brightness and replaces it with a character of matching visual density — dark cells get dense characters like @ and #, light cells get dots and spaces.

Tips

  • High-contrast images such as logos and portraits give the clearest results.
  • 80–120 characters wide fits most chat windows and code comments.
  • Tick Invert when the art will be shown as light text on a dark background (terminals).

Frequently asked questions

Why does it look stretched?

View it in a monospaced font; characters are about twice as tall as wide, which the tool already compensates for.

Can I use colours?

This tool creates plain-text ASCII art without colour.

Is my image uploaded?

No.
