EXIF Remover (Remove Photo Metadata)

Remove GPS location, camera details and other metadata from photos — losslessly for JPG and PNG.

How do I remove metadata from a photo?

Removing metadata deletes the hidden information stored inside an image file — GPS coordinates, camera model, dates, software and comments — while keeping the picture itself.

How it works

  • JPG and PNG — the metadata blocks (EXIF, XMP, IPTC, comments, text chunks) are cut out of the file directly. The image data is not re-encoded, so quality is exactly the same.
  • Rotated phone photos — if a JPG relies on an orientation flag, it is re-saved upright at high quality so it does not appear sideways after cleaning.
  • Other formats (WebP, GIF, HEIC) — the image is re-encoded, which drops all metadata.

Colour profiles are kept so colours look the same.

When to remove metadata

  • Before posting photos taken at home, sending them by email or uploading to marketplaces.
  • Before publishing images on your website (smaller files, no personal data).
  • When sharing documents or screenshots with clients.

Check what a photo contains first with the EXIF Viewer.

Frequently asked questions

Does removing EXIF reduce image quality?

Not for JPG and PNG: the image data is untouched. Only rotated phone photos and other formats are re-encoded at high quality.

Does it remove the GPS location?

Yes, GPS data is part of EXIF and is removed completely.

Are my photos uploaded?

No, they are cleaned in your browser.
