Watermark PDF

Stamp a text watermark such as CONFIDENTIAL or DRAFT across every page of a PDF.

How do I add a watermark to a PDF?

Enter the watermark text, pick a colour and opacity, and press Add watermark. The text is drawn large and semi-transparent across the centre of every page — diagonally by default — and you download the watermarked copy.

Recommended settings

  • Opacity 15–25% keeps the document readable while making the mark obvious.
  • Diagonal watermarks are harder to crop out than horizontal ones.
  • Use short words: CONFIDENTIAL, DRAFT, COPY, SAMPLE or your company name.

The watermark uses the built-in Helvetica Bold font, which supports basic Latin characters. Other characters are replaced with “?” and you will see a warning.

Frequently asked questions

Can the watermark be removed?

It is part of the page content, so it cannot simply be switched off, but determined users with PDF editors can still remove text objects. For strong protection, also convert to images with PDF to Image.

Does it change my original?

No, you download a new file.

Can I use an image logo?

This tool adds text watermarks. For images, use the Image Watermark tool on page images.
