Convert PDF to Grayscale

Turn a colour PDF into black and white (grayscale) for cheaper printing.

How do I convert a colour PDF to black and white?

Choose the PDF and a quality level, then press Convert. Each page is rendered, converted to grayscale using standard luminance weights (21% red, 72% green, 7% blue) and saved into a new PDF.

Good to know

  • Pages become images, so text is no longer selectable. Keep the original if you need to edit or search it.
  • 150 DPI is a good balance of sharpness and size; use 200 DPI for small print.
  • Many printers also have a "print in grayscale" option if you only need a paper copy.
