Compare PDF Files

Compare the text of two PDF documents and highlight every added and removed line.

How can I compare two PDF files for differences?

Choose the original and the changed PDF and press Compare. The tool extracts the text of both and runs a line-by-line comparison, showing added lines in green and removed lines in red with surrounding context.

Good to know

  • It compares text: changes in images, fonts, colours or layout are not detected.
  • Scanned PDFs have no text layer — run them through Image to Text (OCR) first.
  • For plain text or code, use Text Compare.

Frequently asked questions

Is it safe for contracts?

Yes — both files are processed in your browser and never uploaded.

How large can the PDFs be?

Up to about 2,000 lines of text each for the line-by-line comparison.

Why is a whole paragraph marked as changed?

Comparison works per line; a small edit marks that whole line as removed and re-added.
