XML Sitemap Generator

Create a valid sitemap.xml from a list of URLs, with lastmod, changefreq and priority.

What is an XML sitemap?

An XML sitemap is a file that lists the pages of a website you want search engines to crawl, helping Google and Bing find new and updated pages faster.

How to create your sitemap

  1. Paste the full URLs of your important pages, one per line.
  2. Choose whether to add today's date as lastmod, and optional changefreq and priority.
  3. Download sitemap.xml and upload it to your site's root folder.
  4. Add Sitemap: https://yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml to robots.txt and submit it in Google Search Console.

What the generator checks

  • Removes duplicates and skips invalid lines.
  • Escapes & and other special characters as the sitemap protocol requires.
  • Warns if URLs come from more than one host (a sitemap may only list its own host).
  • Limits output to 50,000 URLs, the protocol maximum per file.

Only list canonical, indexable pages that return 200. Check an existing sitemap with the XML Sitemap Checker.

Frequently asked questions

Does Google use changefreq and priority?

Google ignores them, but uses lastmod when it is accurate. Other search engines may use all three.

How many URLs can a sitemap have?

Up to 50,000 URLs and 50 MB uncompressed per file; larger sites use a sitemap index.

Do I need a sitemap?

Small, well-linked sites can be found without one, but a sitemap helps new or large sites get indexed faster.
