Speech to Text (Voice Typing)

Type with your voice in your browser — dictate in English, Sinhala, Tamil, Hindi and more, then copy the text.

How can I convert my voice to text for free?

Pick your language, press Start dictation and allow the microphone. As you speak, your browser’s speech recognition writes the words into the text box in real time; say “comma”, “period” or “new line” (in English) for punctuation, then copy the text.

For the best accuracy

  • Use Chrome or Edge on desktop or Android, or Safari on iPhone and Mac.
  • Speak clearly at a normal pace in a quiet room; a headset microphone helps.
  • Pick the exact language — accuracy drops if the language is wrong.

Frequently asked questions

Is my voice sent to URLMode?

No. Chrome and Edge send audio to Google’s or Microsoft’s speech service to transcribe it; URLMode never receives it.

Does it work in Firefox?

Not yet — Firefox does not support the Web Speech recognition API.

Can it transcribe an audio file?

No, it transcribes live speech from the microphone.
