How do I remove line breaks from text?

Removing line breaks joins lines that were split at a fixed width — common when copying from PDFs or emails — back into normal flowing sentences and paragraphs.

Options

  • Keep paragraph breaks — blank lines between paragraphs stay, single line breaks are joined.
  • Join hyphenated words — "opti-↵mization" becomes "optimization".
  • Replace with — a space (normal) or nothing (for text in languages without spaces).

Double spaces created by joining are cleaned up automatically. For more cleanup — extra spaces, smart quotes, invisible characters — use the Text Cleaner.

Frequently asked questions

Why does text from a PDF have line breaks?

PDFs store text line by line as it is laid out on the page, so copying keeps those breaks.
