ULID, NanoID & UUID v7 Generator

Generate ULIDs, NanoIDs, MongoDB ObjectIds and time-ordered UUID v7 identifiers in bulk.

What is the difference between UUID, ULID and NanoID?

A UUID v4 is 128 random bits written as 36 characters. A ULID and a UUID v7 start with a millisecond timestamp, so they sort by creation time, which makes better database keys. A NanoID is a short random URL-safe ID (21 characters by default) with similar collision resistance to a UUID.

Which to use

  • UUID v7 / ULID — primary keys in databases (index-friendly, sortable).
  • NanoID — short public IDs in URLs.
  • ObjectId — compatibility with MongoDB.

For classic random UUIDs (v4), use the UUID Generator.

Frequently asked questions

Are the IDs secure?

They use the browser’s cryptographically secure random generator.

Do ULIDs reveal the creation time?

How many can I generate?
