Four removal modes
- Tracking parameters only — removes
utm_*,gclid,fbclid,msclkid,mc_cid,igshid,_hsenc,ttclidand similar click IDs, but keeps functional ones like?id=42or?page=2. - All parameters — returns the bare path. Use with care: some sites need parameters to show the right product.
- Only listed — remove exactly the names you type, e.g.
sessionid, ref, sort. - All except listed — an allow-list: keep
id, pageand drop everything else.
You can also strip the #fragment, which is never sent to servers and usually only scrolls to a section.
Why clean URLs matter
- Sharing: a link copied from an ad or newsletter carries the original campaign's tags. When you re-share it, analytics credits the wrong source.
- Privacy: click IDs like
fbclidandgclidcan link a visit back to an ad account. Cleaning them protects your audience. - SEO audits: crawl exports and backlink reports often list the same page dozens of times with different parameters. Strip them to de-duplicate the list.
- Sitemaps and canonicals should always use parameter-free URLs.
Example
Before: https://shop.example.com/shoes?utm_source=news&utm_medium=email&size=42&fbclid=IwAR0x
After : https://shop.example.com/shoes?size=42
The functional size parameter stays, the tracking noise is gone, and the table shows how many times each parameter was removed across your list.
Do parameters hurt SEO?
Parameters by themselves are fine, but uncontrolled ones create near-infinite duplicate URLs (sort orders, filters, session IDs) that waste crawl budget. Fix this at the source: add a self-referencing canonical, keep parameter URLs out of your sitemap, and link internally to clean URLs. For a complete list clean-up — trailing slashes, case, HTTPS and duplicates — use the Bulk URL Cleaner.
Frequently asked questions
How do I remove UTM parameters from a URL?
Paste the URL, choose Tracking parameters only and copy the result. All utm_ tags and click IDs like fbclid and gclid are removed while functional parameters stay.
What is fbclid in a URL?
fbclid is a click identifier Facebook adds to outbound links. It is used for ad attribution and can safely be removed when sharing a link.
Is it safe to remove all query parameters?
Not always. Some sites use parameters to load the right product, search results or page number. Use tracking-only mode unless you know the parameters are not needed.
Does removing parameters change the page?
Removing tracking parameters does not change what the page shows. Removing functional parameters such as id or page can.
Is my list uploaded anywhere?
No. The tool runs entirely in your browser, so URLs never leave your device.
