Markdown Table Generator

Turn CSV or cells copied from Excel / Google Sheets into a neatly aligned Markdown table.

Runs instantly in your browser — results update as you type.

How do I make a table in Markdown?

A Markdown table uses pipes (|) between cells and a separator row of dashes under the header, such as | --- |. Colons in the separator set the alignment: :--- left, :---: centre and ---: right. Paste your data here and the table is written for you.

How to use it

  1. Copy cells from Excel or Google Sheets (they paste as tab-separated text) or paste CSV.
  2. Pick the alignment — Numbers right, text left right-aligns numeric columns automatically.
  3. Keep Pad columns on for a neatly aligned source, or off for compact output.

Pipes inside cells are escaped automatically. The output works on GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, Notion, Obsidian, Reddit and in most static site generators.

Frequently asked questions

Can a Markdown table have merged cells?

No, GitHub Flavored Markdown tables do not support colspan or rowspan — use an HTML table instead.

Can I add line breaks in a cell?

Use inside the cell.

Does every row need the same number of columns?

Yes; the tool pads short rows with empty cells.
