llms.txt Checker

Validate a site's llms.txt file: format, sections, links and llms-full.txt.

What is llms.txt?

llms.txt is a proposed standard: a Markdown file at the root of a website that gives AI assistants a short summary of the site and links to its most important pages, similar in spirit to robots.txt and sitemaps.

The expected format

# Example Inc.

> One-paragraph summary of what the site offers.

What the checker validates

  • The file exists at /llms.txt and is plain text, not an HTML page.
  • The first line is an H1 title.
  • A summary blockquote and ## sections are present.
  • Links use Markdown list format, and a sample of up to 15 links is tested for errors.
  • Whether the optional /llms-full.txt (full page text) exists.

Does llms.txt help SEO?

Google has said it does not use llms.txt for Search. Some AI tools and assistants read it, so it is a low-effort, optional addition. It works best alongside clean HTML, structured data and an open robots.txt — check AI bot access with the AI Crawler Checker.
