IBAN Validator

Check whether an IBAN is valid: country, length and MOD-97 check digits, with the bank and account part split out.

Runs instantly in your browser — results update as you type.

How do I check if an IBAN is valid?

A valid IBAN has a two-letter country code, two check digits and a country-specific number of characters. Move the first four characters to the end, convert letters to numbers (A = 10 … Z = 35) and the result modulo 97 must equal 1 — this tool runs that ISO 13616 check instantly.

Spaces and hyphens are ignored, so you can paste the IBAN exactly as printed on a statement or invoice.

Frequently asked questions

Does a valid IBAN mean the account exists?

No. The check catches typos, but only the bank can confirm the account and its owner.

Does the US use IBAN?

No. The United States, Canada and Australia use their own account and routing numbers.

Is it safe to enter an IBAN here?

Yes, the check runs entirely in your browser and nothing is sent or stored.
