What are invisible characters?

Invisible characters are Unicode characters that take up no visible space or look like normal spaces — such as the zero-width space (U+200B) or non-breaking space (U+00A0). They often sneak in when copying text and can break code, searches and logins.

What the detector finds

  • Zero-width space, joiner and non-joiner, word joiner
  • Byte order mark (BOM / U+FEFF)
  • Non-breaking and narrow non-breaking spaces
  • Soft hyphens
  • Left-to-right and right-to-left marks, embeddings and overrides (used in "Trojan Source" attacks)
  • Control characters and unusual Unicode spaces

Each one is listed with its code point and count, highlighted in place, and a cleaned version of the text is provided.

Common problems they cause

Keywords that do not match in analytics, CSV imports that fail, variables that "look right" but cause syntax errors, and passwords that are rejected.
