Find and Replace Text

Find and replace words in text, with case-sensitive, whole-word and regex options.

How do I find and replace text?

Find and replace searches a text for a word, phrase or pattern and swaps every match for new text, which is faster and more reliable than editing each occurrence by hand.

Options

  • Match case — "Cat" and "cat" are treated differently.
  • Whole words only — replacing "cat" will not change "cats" or "concat".
  • Regular expression — use patterns such as \d+ and refer to groups with $1 in the replacement.

Examples

  • Change a product name across a long document.
  • Replace http:// with https:// in a list of links.
  • Reformat dates with a regex: find (\d{2})/(\d{2})/(\d{4}), replace with $3-$2-$1.
