Citation Generator (APA, MLA, Chicago)

Create APA 7, MLA 9, Chicago and Harvard citations for websites, books and journal articles, with in-text citations.

How do I cite a website in APA?

An APA 7 website citation lists the author, the date in brackets, the page title in italics, the site name and the URL — for example: Smith, J. (2024, May 3). Title of the page. Site Name. https://example.com. Fill in the fields and the tool formats it in four styles at once.

Tips

  • Separate several authors with semicolons: Jane Smith; John Lee, or write Smith, Jane.
  • No author? Leave it blank — the site or the title moves to the front, as each style requires.
  • For journal articles, add the DOI; it becomes a https://doi.org link.
  • APA uses sentence case for titles (only the first word and proper nouns capitalised); MLA and Chicago use title case.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between APA and MLA?

APA (science, psychology) puts the year right after the author; MLA (humanities) puts the date near the end and uses page numbers in in-text citations.

Do I need the access date?

MLA recommends it for web pages without a publication date; APA does not use it for most pages.

Is my data stored?

No, citations are created in your browser.
