Runs instantly in your browser — results update as you type.

How do I translate text into Braille?

Type or paste text and the translator converts every letter, number and punctuation mark to Unicode Braille cells (⠃⠗⠁⠊⠇⠇⠑) using uncontracted Grade 1 English Braille: ⠠ marks a capital letter and ⠼ starts a number. Paste Braille instead and it translates it back to text.

Grade 1 vs Grade 2 Braille

Grade 1 (uncontracted) spells every letter, which is how beginners learn and how this tool works. Grade 2 (contracted) uses shortcuts for common words and letter groups, such as ⠞ for "the" when standing alone; it is used in most books and signs.

Uses

  • Learning the Braille alphabet and numbers.
  • Labels, accessible designs and teaching materials.
  • Creating text for a Braille embosser or a refreshable Braille display.
