Barcode Generator (Code 128, EAN-13, UPC)

Create Code 128, EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, Code 39, ITF-14 and more barcodes — download as PNG or SVG.

Which barcode type should I use?

Use Code 128 for internal labels, inventory and shipping because it encodes any text compactly. Use EAN-13 (or UPC-A in North America) for retail products, ITF-14 for cartons, and Code 39 when older scanners require it.

For EAN and UPC you may omit the last (check) digit — it is calculated automatically. SVG stays sharp at any print size; PNG is exported at 3× resolution.

Frequently asked questions

Can I sell products with a barcode from here?

The barcode image is fine, but retail EAN/UPC numbers must be licensed from GS1 so they are unique to your company.

What is the difference between a barcode and a QR code?

Barcodes are one-dimensional and hold a short number or text; QR codes are 2D and hold links and much more data — see the QR Code Generator.

Why is my EAN-13 rejected?

It must be digits only, and if you enter 13 digits the last one must be the correct check digit.
